Steve Lawson has spent over 35 years at the sharp end of security and risk management, from policing and military service through to senior roles in aviation security and international consulting.
He spent a decade and a half with Qantas, where he managed airport and regional security operations, developed the airline’s security policies, standards, and electronic incident management systems. He coordinated Qantas’ security response to September 11 in New York and led operations in Denpasar following the Bali bombings. In the wake of September 11, he created Qantas’ air freight security policy and later implemented it as Security Manager Freight. He was seconded to the Commonwealth government to help establish Australia’s Air Marshal program, reviewing US and Israeli training and operations and providing recommendations for implementation.

Today, he leads Paradym’s expansion into AI-assisted screening technology, purpose-built aviation safety platforms, and managed security services for airports across Australia and New Zealand.

With over three decades of experience in security management that began in the governmental sector of South Australia, Mr. Paul Vivian has built an expansive career that extends from the intricate protection of government facilities to the complexities of international security consulting. His profound knowledge of the security field is grounded in hands-on technical expertise and enhanced by extensive project management experience in environments as varied as the Middle East and Western countries.
Mr. Vivian’s diverse expertise spans aviation, casinos, law enforcement, counterterrorism, correctional facilities, rail and public transport, and major sporting facilities, reflecting a deep understanding of sector-specific security requirements. Many of his projects for western governments are not available for publication, however they include state-of-the-art Command, Control, Communications, Computers, and Intelligence (C4I) systems, his expertise in integrating AI for analytics and correlation, and managing extensive networks of many thousands of CCTV cameras, showcases his adeptness in surveillance and monitoring. He has executed projects featuring coastal and ground radar systems for expansive perimeter defence, smart fencing technologies, and specialized detection systems like diver detection sonars and underwater fence detectors. His skill in orchestrating protection systems extends to autonomous ground vehicles and anti-drone systems, ensuring comprehensive coverage against diverse threats.

His unique expertise has evolved, placing him at the forefront of military software design and testing for a global defence contractor, with his work extending to projects vital to NATO’s operational capabilities.
Mr. Lee’s proficiency in defence-specific communications software reflects a combination of technical mastery and strategic vision, essential for the advanced systems used in military contexts. His noteworthy contributions to the development of mission-critical software for Armored Vehicle systems, Military Rotary Aviation platforms, and crucial NATO and Australian infrastructure have emphasized the importance of embedding efficiency and dependability into these high-stakes applications.

Mr. William (Bill) Dent who has over twenty-five years’ experience in security operations, intelligence, threat and risk, both with the Australian Government and in the private sector where he worked for Qantas Airways as its International Security Risk Manager before going into business with Steve Lawson in 2007. Mr Dent’s expertise is security Threat Assessment and Risk Management in aviation. At Qantas, Bill was an executive manager in Group Security Operations and in addition to advising management and the board on security threats to Qantas’s international operations, worked with the Security Operations team to ensure operational security both in Australia and for Qantas international operations. Since leaving Qantas, Bill has consulted nationally and internationally on aviation security. During his time working in Aviation Security, he has undertaken projects in Australia, throughout, Europe, India, Nepal and Bhutan, Oceania and South Africa.
Bill is an experienced Aviation Security Executive/Consultant with operational security experience covering Australian and international airports as well as domestic and international airline security operations. Bill’s knowledge of international threat covers terrorism, transnational crime, political instability and geopolitical security issues. His experience in aviation security has covered some of the most challenging security events in recent history, such as the 9/11 terrorist attacks and bombings in Indonesia, Madrid, Mumbai and London.
Recently Bill consulted to the Australian Government on a review of the safety and security of Australian Border Force personnel operating at Australia’s international airports. As well, with Steve Lawson, he carried out a comprehensive review of security at Paro International Airport in Bhutan, led a team in a review of Singapore’s air cargo and supply chain security, and carried out several aviation security reviews for the Indonesian Directorate General of Civil Aviation.
Bill holds a Master of Business Administration (University of Sydney); Bachelor of Arts (University of Queensland) and Diplomas in Management, Quality Auditing and Security and Risk Management. He holds ICAO and IATA qualifications and has successfully completed numerous Qantas Aviation Security courses and Government security courses.
